Our new baby chicks!

Spring break is here and I am ready for it! On Saturday morning Chad, Mike (Cabbage) and I sat lazily on the couch and thought about our backyard. I have been wanting chickens for awhile. I grew up with them and every morning I would lift up the hens and take the fresh eggs from under them; the sounds they make and the demeanor about them makes me so happy. We have been eating quite a bit of eggs lately, and I have tons of egg cartons (my plan was to grow small trees to give to people to plant as wedding favors) so we decided it was time that we raise chickens of our own. This way I will know exactly where my eggs come from and I will know what they eat and how they live... happily. Also, I am currently reading Omnivore's Dilemma and this is one such way that I can live off of my land and be a conscious and healthy eater.

So here they are! Their names our Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael (Chad's 8 year-old love for the TMNT just recently became an obsession again).

My babies love being outside.

Here's a close-up of Leonardo.

Simba, Tilly, and Leo love our new chicks, too.
